Government proposes additional funding for border security

In the first supplementary budget for 2024, the Government proposes over EUR 91 million in additional funding for the administrative branch of the Ministry of the Interior. Of this sum, EUR 86.174 million will be allocated to the Border Guard, EUR 2 million to the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service and EUR 3 million for the further development of the security authorities’ Multi-Agency Field Commanding System (KEJO).

On Thursday 14 March, the Government appointed Doctor of Social Science Juha Martelius Director of the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service for a fixed term of five years (1 April 2024–31 March 2029).

A total of 19 candidates applied for the post of Director of the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service by the deadline. The post will be filled for a maximum term of five years. The Director of the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service is appointed by a government plenary session.
