Restrictions on entry into Finland to be tightened on 27 January

On 22 January, the Government decided to tighten the restrictions on entry into Finland. The new restrictions will enter into force on 27 January and will remain in force until 25 February. The new restrictions aim to reduce cross-border traffic in order to prevent the spread of the new COVID-19 variants. The epidemiological situation in Finland differs considerably from that in other Schengen countries. For this reason, the risk that travellers might spread the virus variants is significant in Finland.

On 7.1., the Government decided to extend the restrictions on entry into the country until 9.2. The COVID-19 epidemic is still clearly growing globally, and the number of infections is increasing in most countries more sharply than in Finland. It is therefore not justified to ease the restrictions until the new health security measures under preparation have been made sufficiently available.

Act on the Marketing and Use of Explosives Precursors to enter into force on 1 February 2021

The new Act on the Marketing and Use of Explosives Precursors will place further restrictions on consumer access to certain explosives precursors. The Government submitted the bill for approval on Thursday 14 January. The President of the Republic is to approve the bill on 15 January.

Fees charged by the Finnish Immigration Service to change in 2021

The Ministry of the Interior has issued its annual decree on fees charged by the Finnish Immigration Service. The decree will enter into force on 1 January 2021. Some of the prices will be increased to better reflect the costs incurred to the agency in processing applications.
