19.12.2019 | From the beginning of 2020, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment will be responsible for the administration of labour migration matters. This transfer of duties was agreed on in the Government Programme. The objective is to link labour and student migration more closely to employment, industrial, innovation, education and immigration policies.

16.9.2021 | The government proposal on the introduction of a long-term national D visa in Finland promotes labour migration and includes the preparation of a fast track pledge. According to the proposal, the national D visa would first cover specialists, growth or start-up entrepreneurs and their family members.

Another factor influencing people’s sense of security is the level of trust individuals have in their own abilities and the abilities of their community and society to protect them against threats and overcome different kinds of disturbances in society.

19.6.2019 | On Wednesday 19 June, the Government appointed Master of Science Olli-Poika Parviainen as State Secretary to Minister of the Interior Maria Ohisalo, Doctor of Philosophy Minna Kelhä as State Secretary to Minister of Education Li Andersson, and Doctor of Political Science Pilvi Torsti as State Secretary to Minister of Employment Timo Harakka. Their term, starting on 19 June, is the same as that of the ministers.

Fokus låg på vägar som baserar sig på arbete och studier. Forskningsinformation stöder Finlands överväganden av behovet av migrationsvägar och EU:s ansträngningar för att finna nya lösningar.

6.11.2019 | Turvallisuustutkimuksen seminaari kokoaa Helsinkiin 6.-7.11. kansainvälisiä turvallisuusalan asiantuntijoita keskustelemaan turvallisuustutkimuksen nykytilasta ja haasteista Euroopassa. Seminaari on Suomen EU-puheenjohtajakauden oheistapahtuma ja sen järjestämisestä vastaa sisäministeriö yhdessä Euroopan komission kanssa. Sisäministeri Maria Ohisalo on seminaarin pääpuhuja.

6.11.2019 | Ett seminarium om säkerhetsforskning samlar den 6–7 november i Helsingfors internationella experter inom säkerhetsbranschen för diskussion av säkerhetsforskningens nuläge och utmaningar i Europa. Seminariet är ett sidoevenemang till Finlands EU-ordförandeskap och arrangeras av inrikesministeriet tillsammans med Europeiska kommissionen. The Review discusses labour migration developments in the light of statistics, the latest legislative changes that have facilitated work permit processes, the progress made in the reform of the Common European Asylum System by the EU and the latest trends in the asylum situation.

26.3.2020 | On 25 March 2020, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment appointed a joint ministerial working group to assess the need for entry into the country of employees working in essential sectors in the state of emergency caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

25.2.2020 | Minister of the Interior Maria Ohisalo awarded Medals of Merit First Class for Civil Defence and Medals of Merit Second Class for Civil Defence on 24 February. These Medals of Merit are awarded for meritorious or highly meritorious work for the good of civil defence.

The award was presented on 21 March 2019 at the Erve Forum, an annual cooperation event for security professionals organised by the State Security Networks Group.

25.10.2018 | In order to reduce the negative economic, social and health impacts of gambling, the Government is proposing requiring players to identify themselves when they play slot machines found in shops or kiosks, for example. The proposal on this matter was submitted to Parliament on 25 October.

4.10.2019 | En tredjedel av de kommunala beslutsfattarna och närmare hälften av riksdagsledamöterna eller deras assistenter har blivit utsatta för hatretorik på grund av sina förtroende- eller tjänsteuppdrag. Dessutom bedömer två av tre beslutsfattare att hatretorik i den offentliga debatten har ökat under de senaste åren. Uppgifterna framgår av en färsk studie.

17.5.2019 | Hate speech is such a serious problem that the Government must define policies for its eradication. A working group that examined the phenomenon proposes that an action plan against hate speech be drawn up, a centre of expertise be established, and the relevant legislation be amended. Hate speech has harmful consequences not only for the victim but also for democratic society as a whole, the rule of law, and freedom of expression.

31.5.2020 | The restrictions put in place to mitigate the COVID-19 epidemic are being phased out gradually and in a controlled manner starting on 1 June. The aim is to curb the epidemic while minimising the adverse impact on people, businesses, society and the exercise of fundamental rights. From the beginning of June, certain restrictions will be alleviated, including the restrictions on gatherings, the organisation of events and the opening of public spaces.
