11.10.2019 | Suomen EU-puheenjohtajuuskaudella järjestettiin Euroopan unionin neuvoston lainvalvontatyöryhmän (LEWP) neljän alatyöryhmän yhteiskokous 7.-8.10. Finlandia-talolla Helsingissä. Suurin osa yli 130:sta kokousvieraasta edusti EU:n jäsenvaltioiden poliisiviranomaisia, mutta osallistujia saapui Helsinkiin myös muun muassa Norjasta ja Sveitsistä.

16.9.2019 | Väkivaltaisen radikalisoitumisen ennaltaehkäisyn konferenssi (Conference on Preventing Violent Radicalisation) kokoaa Finlandia-talolle 17.-18.9. laajan joukon kansainvälisiä asiantuntijoita käsittelemään väkivaltaisen radikalisoitumisen ehkäisytyötä niin tutkimustiedon, käytännön kokemuksen kuin viranomaistyön näkökulmista.

They have highlighted on various occasions the need to develop the activities of the authorities, especially those of the police. Representatives of the Roma population and Minister of the Interior Maria Ohisalo held a round table discussion on 16 January to talk about the safety and sense of security experienced by the Roma and how improve the situation, particularly by measures of the Ministry of the Interior and the police.

19.12.2019 | The Government has issued a resolution on the national action plan 2019–2023 for the prevention of violent radicalisation and extremism. The action plan aims to reduce extremist violence and its threat to individuals, communities and society, and to promote equality, freedom of expression and other constitutional rights.

23.8.2022 | The Ministry of the Interior is launching a series of immigration dialogues. The idea is for various actors across Finland to organise discussions on immigration this autumn. The aim of the discussions is to increase understanding of different perspectives and the changing nature of immigration.

8.3.2023 | Immigration Dialogues, a series of discussions coordinated by the Ministry of the Interior, brought nearly 700 people together to talk about immigration. The discussions held in the autumn of 2022 aimed to provide people from different backgrounds with an opportunity to present their ideas and increase understanding of immigration. The final report will be published on 8 March.

19.7.2023 | EU home affairs ministers will gather in Logroño in Spain on 20 July for an informal meeting of the Justice and Home Affairs Council. The agenda will include the fight against organised crime, the situation in Ukraine and migration. Finland will be represented by Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen.

A newly published report identifies several development measures that can improve the authorities’ capacity to protect national cyber security, combat serious cyber crime and develop cyber defence.

31.10.2023 | Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen and Danish Minister of Justice Peter Hummelgaard met in Copenhagen on 31 October. They discussed youth and gang crime and its prevention, young offenders below the age of criminal liability and Finland's new Government Programme.

15.8.2018 | Radicalisation is not a crime, but when it leads to violence, a radicalised person may be a threat to other people and society. The challenge is how to deal with radicalised persons who cannot be subjected to measures under the Criminal Code. The effective prevention of violent radicalisation requires not only that the police can take the necessary measures but also that the person can be referred to other relevant services, if necessary.

7.9.2017 | The proposal for legislation on civilian intelligence that is being prepared by the Ministry of the Interior is considered necessary and worth supporting. Most of the 65 parties who commented on the report on civilian intelligence published last April were of this opinion. The consultation round for the proposal closed in June, and a summary of the received comments was published 7 September 2017.
