The Government adopted a decision on the matter on 5 August. The decision will enter into force on 9 August and will remain in force until 22 August 2021. In contrast, restrictions on external border traffic will continue until 14 February. The Government adopted a decision on the restrictions on external border traffic on 27 January and the decision will enter into force on 1 February.

13.1.2022 | Internal border control will continue and the restrictions on entry will remain largely unchanged until 31 January. However, some exemptions will be made for people who cannot be vaccinated against COVID-19 for medical reasons. The Government decided on these changes at its session on 13 January and they will enter into force on 17 January 2022.

28.12.2021 | Internal border control will be reinstated at Finland’s borders starting on Tuesday 28 December. There will also be other changes to the restrictions on entry, and as of 28 December, the same restrictions will apply to everyone arriving in Finland from abroad. The Government decided on the new restrictions today. The decision will enter into force on 28 December at 15.00 Finnish time and will remain in force until 16 January 2022.

15.7.2021 | In line with the Government decision of 15 July, the restrictions on the opening hours of border crossing points at the Finnish-Norwegian border will be lifted on 19 July. Changes will also be made to internal and external border control. According to the decision, starting from Monday 26 July 2021, persons who are able to present a certificate of a completed and approved COVID-19 vaccine course before entry can arrive in Finland from all countries.

21.12.2021 | In its negotiations on Tuesday 21 December, the Government discussed the COVID-19 situation and decided on new restrictions and other necessary measures. In addition to increasing vaccination coverage, effective national and regional measures to limit close contacts are needed to slow down the spread of the epidemic. This will allow more time for giving people third vaccine doses.

At the moment, there appears to be a greater spirit of community among people, people seek more information and they appear to trust the authorities more than last year.

28.11.2021 | As of 15.00 on Sunday 28 November, Finland will restrict entry into the country at its external borders for travellers who have been in Botswana, Eswatini, South Africa, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia or Zimbabwe during the 14 days prior to their arrival in Finland. The Government adopted a decision on the matter on 28 November.

25.11.2021 | Restrictions on external border traffic will continue as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread. Despite the increase in vaccination coverage, there is still a risk that the carrying capacity of the healthcare system will be exceeded. After this short transitional period, internal border control and entry restrictions at internal borders will be lifted. Internal border traffic refers to traffic between Finland and other Schengen countries. Changes will be made to external border control as well.

As of 1 July, third-country travellers arriving in Finland will no longer be required to hold vaccination or COVID-19 test certificates, and COVID-19 tests will not be carried out at border crossing points. Health authorities have judged that no health grounds remain for restrictions at external borders.

Statsrådet fattade beslut om att fortsätta restriktionerna vid sitt sammanträde den 7 april, och restriktionerna träder i kraft den 11 april. 

15.12.2021 | Avsikten är att statsrådet beslutar om nya inreserestriktioner torsdagen den 16 december. Hälsosäkerhetsåtgärderna skärps och de gällande begränsningarna i trafiken över de yttre gränserna fortsätter fram till den 16 januari 2022. 

7.10.2021 | Inreserestriktionerna avvecklas i trafiken från Kuwait till Finland i fråga om invånare i Kuwait. Statsrådet fattade beslut i ärendet den 7 oktober och beslutet träder i kraft den 11 oktober. Det görs inga andra ändringar i restriktionerna. De gällande inreserestriktionerna i trafiken över de yttre gränserna fortsätter fram till den 24 oktober. Man kan dock komma till Finland från vilket land som helst genom att visa upp ett godtagbart intyg över fullständig vaccinationsserie.

25.11.2021 | Begränsningarna i trafiken över de yttre gränserna fortsätter. Coronapandemin pågår fortfarande. Trots ökad vaccinationstäckning finns det alltjämt en risk för att hälso- och sjukvårdens bärkraft överskrids. Därför förlängs giltighetstiden för det beslut som fattades den 4 november fram till den 19 december. Man kan dock komma till Finland från vilket land som helst genom att visa upp ett godtagbart intyg över fullständig vaccinationsserie.
