Målet är att fastställa hur informationssystemet kunde utnyttjas vid återsändandet av tredjelandsmedborgare som vistas olagligt inom EU.

13.9.2017 | The EU home affairs ministers will meet at the Justice and Home Affairs Council in Brussels on 14 September. They will discuss counter-terrorism action and assess the current situation following the recent terrorist attacks in Europe. Finland’s representative at the meeting will be Minister of the Interior Paula Risikko, who will give an update on the situation in Finland.

8.12.2020 | The Government proposes that wellbeing services counties be established and healthcare, social welfare and rescue services be reformed. The proposed counties would be established as soon as possible after the passing and approval of the relevant bills. The bills would enter into force in stages, the first ones on 1 July 2021 and the last ones on 1 January 2023. However, Parliament needs to pass the legislative package before the reform can enter into force.

9.8.2018 | The Ministry of the Interior proposes that an appropriation totalling EUR 1,485 million be allocated to its administrative branch in 2019. This is, as a whole, an increase of nearly EUR 10 million on the approved 2018 Budget figure.

30.11.2018 | The Ministry of the Interior began a survey concerning the asylum procedure on 30 November. The project will begin with a tendering process to select a party to carry out the survey. The purpose of the independent survey is to identify development needs concerning the asylum procedure, examine the cooperation between different authorities and assess the practices of the administrative courts for dealing with asylum-related issues.

13.10.2020 | The Ministerial Working Group on Health and Social Services has reviewed the opinions submitted in the round of comments held from 15 June to 25 September 2020 on its draft government proposal. As a result, the Government has made a number of policy adjustments and amendments to the draft. A total of 804 comments were received. The draft proposal will be submitted to the Finnish Council of Regulatory Impact Analysis on 14 October 2020 and presented to Parliament in early December 2020.

15.3.2019 | On Monday 18 March 2019, Minister of the Interior Kai Mykkänen will have served 1,000 days as a government minister in Finland. He was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Trade and Development of Prime Minister Sipilä’s Government in June 2016. 11.2.2021 | Employers should support an employee who is subject to online targeting and shaming on social media or otherwise because of his or her duties. In addition, the police must ensure uniform practices in the investigation of online targeting and shaming. This will improve the position of the victim and safeguard legal protection, says the Ministry of the Interior's working group.

2.12.2019 | An action plan on police traffic enforcement and traffic safety will be drawn up. The aim is to improve people's sense of security and the safety of people, the environment and property. 30.12.2020 | The European Border and Coast Guard Agency Frontex will have a new operational standing corps starting on 1 January 2021. The standing corps will support the EU Member States in managing the Union’s external borders and the return of third-country nationals. The President of the Republic approved the amendments on 30 December. The new amendments will enter into force on 1 January 2021.

7.10.2021 | The Government proposes that the reception act be amended so that the Finnish Immigration Service would have central responsibility for preparedness planning concerning the organisation of reception services in the event of a mass influx of migrants. The amendment would improve preparedness for large numbers of migrants and clarify the division of duties between the authorities. The Government submitted a proposal on the amendment to Parliament on 7 October.

12.11.2020 | The European Commission issued a comprehensive communication on the reform of migration and asylum policy on 23 September. The communication was accompanied by five legislative proposals. The Government expressed its position on the Commission's proposals in its communications submitted to Parliament on 12 November.

23.6.2021 | On 23 June, the Ministry of the Interior sent out for comments draft legislative amendments that would support preparedness for a possible mass influx of migrants. The need for change has been identified in the development work that the authorities have been carrying out since 2015.

2.6.2020 | The Government negotiated the fourth supplementary budget proposal for 2020 on Tuesday 2 June. In the supplementary budget proposal, appropriation increases of EUR 10 and 5 million are proposed for the police and the Border Guard to ensure their operational capacity.

13.1.2020 | The Ministry of the Interior has set up a legislative project to implement the EU directive on access to financial information at national level. The directive contains rules to facilitate the use of information held in bank account registries by the authorities for the purpose of preventing, detecting, investigating or prosecuting certain offences.

12.5.2021 | The government report on the General Government Fiscal Plan was submitted to Parliament at the government plenary session on 12 May 2021. The amendment would allow the competent authorities of the EU Member States to access centralised bank account registries.
