24.10.2023 | The Ministry of the Interior has set up a legislative project on the reform of the gambling system. The project will prepare for the introduction of a licence system for gambling in accordance with the Government Programme.

24.7.2024 | Finland will participate in a rescue service deployment by sending 48 experts in international civil protection to Portugal. These experts will be tasked with helping local authorities manage wildfires. The first of two groups will leave for Portugal at the beginning of August.

8.12.2022 | The Ministry of the Interior has set up a legislative project concerning the implementation of the EU’s proposed Directive on Critical Entities Resilience (CER), which is currently under consideration in the Union. The project will enhance national security and the resilience of society.  

24.7.2024 | Finland sänder 48 experter inom internationell räddningsverksamhet till Portugal. Experterna har till uppgift att stödja de lokala myndigheterna i hanteringen av terrängbränder. Det är fråga om beredskapsförflyttning. Den första av de två grupperna åker till Portugal i början av augusti.

27.1.2023 | Inrikesministeriet har tillsatt en arbetsgrupp som ska bedöma styrningen och övervakningen av och utbildningen för den privata säkerhetsbranschen. Arbetsgruppen har till uppgift att lägga fram förslag om hur verksamheten inom branschen kan utvecklas.

3.12.2024 | Social- och hälsovårdsministeriet har beviljat sammanlagt 1,5 miljoner euro i statsunderstöd för pilotförsök gällande arbetsfördelningen inom social- och hälsovården och för arbetsträning inom social- och hälsovården och räddningsväsendet. Statsunderstöd beviljades till 18 välfärdsområden.

3.10.2024 | Inrikesministeriet har inlett ett förvaltningsövergripande projekt för att utveckla ankarverksamheten. Projektets syfte är att stärka och utveckla ankarverksamheten för att bekämpa och minska ungdoms- och gängbrottslighet. Projektet är en del av genomförandet av den nationella barnstrategin.

2.5.2022 | Minister of the Interior Krista Mikkonen will visit Tallinn on 2–3 May and meet Estonian Minister of the Interior Kristian Jaani. The Ministers will discuss topics including the situation in Ukraine, the reception of people who have fled Ukraine, provision of international assistance and civil defence.

18.11.2024 | The new Preparing for Incidents and Crises guide aimed at the entire population has been published on Suomi.fi. The Ministry of the Interior produced the online guide together with the Digital and Population Data Services Agency and an extensive cooperation network. The guide collects preparedness instructions in one place.

11.2.2023 | Finland has provided material assistance in the form of emergency accommodation for approximately 3,000 people in Türkiye. Preparations are also underway to deliver material assistance to Syria quickly. The need for assistance in the rescue and clearance operations is great in the aftermath of the earthquake. The first instalment arrived in Türkiye today and was delivered through NATO’s Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EARDCC).

14.3.2024 | On Thursday 14 March, the Government appointed Doctor of Social Science Juha Martelius Director of the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service for a fixed term of five years (1 April 2024–31 March 2029).

14.9.2023 | Libya has requested assistance through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism following the destruction caused by Storm Daniel on 12 September. Libya has requested a wide range of assistance, including shelters, medical supplies and expert assistance.

13.12.2021 | Inrikesministeriet publicerade i dag, den 13 december, utlandsfinländarstrategin för 2022–2026. Strategin innehåller mål och åtgärder för att bemöta utlandsfinländarnas servicebehov och för att i allt högre grad utnyttja utlandsfinländarnas egen kompetens.

28.2.2023 | Over the weekend and on Monday, Finland sent more material assistance to the areas hit by the earthquake in Türkiye. Some of the assistance will be delivered from Türkiye to Syria. There is still a great need for material assistance, such as emergency accommodation and heating, in the region.

16.4.2020 | The Ministry of the Interior has set up a legislative project aiming to assess the relationship between carbon offsetting activities and the Money Collection Act. Based on this assessment, the Money Collection Act will be amended to allow for voluntary carbon offsetting.

1.12.2022 | On 30 November 2022, Minister of the Interior Krista Mikkonen and experts in several fields discussed youth crime and the emergence of gangs and gang crime. The round table meeting included experts by experience, parties engaged with young people through preventive work and authorities.

27.10.2023 | The interior ministers of Finland, Norway, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and Ukraine met in Lithuania's capital, Vilnius, on 27 October. The ministers discussed current security challenges facing their countries. The agenda included hybrid threats, border control, immigration, civil preparedness and resilience of critical infrastructure. Finland was represented at the meeting by Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen.

16.2.2023 | The Government has adopted a resolution on the National Strategy for the Prevention of and Response to Environmental Damage extending to 2035. The Strategy was adopted at the government session on 16 February. Its main objective is to guide the authorities’ preparedness for current and future threats of environmental damage. The Strategy needed to be updated to ensure that the responsibilities of different actors are in line with the current legislation.

11.2.2023 | Finland skickade materialhjälp till Turkiet i form av nödinkvartering för cirka 3 000 personer. Det planeras också att materiell hjälp ska skickas till Syrien enligt en snabb tidsplan. Hjälpbehovet är stort vid räddnings- och röjningsarbetet efter jordbävningen. Den första försändelsen med materialhjälp anlände till Turkiet i dag via Natos euroatlantiska räddningstjänst (EARDCC).

20.10.2023 | Because of the escalating conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, more than 100,000 Armenians have fled the region towards Armenia. Armenia has therefore requested assistance through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. This includes, among other things, necessities such as food packages, clothing and hygiene supplies.

27.10.2023 | Finlands, Norges, Estlands, Litauens, Lettlands, Polens och Ukrainas inrikesministrar sammanträdde i Litauens huvudstad Vilnius den 27 oktober. Ministrarna diskuterade ländernas aktuella säkerhetsutmaningar. På agendan stod bland annat hybridhot, gränskontroll, migration, civil beredskap och den kritiska infrastrukturens resiliens. Finland representerades vid mötet av inrikesminister Mari Rantanen.

23.2.2024 | The second anniversary of the beginning of the Russia’s brutal war of aggression against Ukraine in its entirety will be this week on 24 February 2024. However, one anniversary was already observed last week on 15 February, when it had been exactly two years since the activation of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism following Ukraine’s request for assistance.

23.5.2023 | A study commissioned by the Ministry of the Interior examined the reflection periods granted to victims of human trafficking during which the victims can decide whether to cooperate with the authorities in apprehending those suspected of human trafficking. The study also examined how suspicion of trading in sexual services was applied as grounds for denial of admittance or stay.

26.1.2023 | On 9 January, Director General Kauko Aaltomaa, who is on leave of absence from the Police Department of the Ministry of the Interior, took up his duties as Head of Mission of the European Union Capacity Building Mission in Somalia (EUCAP Somalia). EUCAP Somalia is a civilian crisis management mission under the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy. Its tasks include promoting maritime security in Somalia and supporting the building of the country’s police and judicial administrations.

23.5.2023 | En utredning som inrikesministeriet beställt granskade betänketiden för offer för människohandel under vilken offren kan besluta om de tänker samarbeta med myndigheterna för att de som misstänks för människohandel ska kunna gripas. Dessutom utreddes hur misstanke om försäljning av sexuella tjänster tillämpas som grund för avvisning.

1.12.2022 | On Thursday 1 December, the Government appointed Kirsi Henriksson (MA) to continue as Director of the Crisis Management Centre (CMC) Finland. The post will be filled for the period from 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2027.

26.1.2023 | Den 9 januari inledde Kauko Aaltomaa arbetet som chef för EU:s civila krishanteringsinsats i Somalia. Aaltomaa är tjänstledig från sin befattning som överdirektör för polisavdelningen vid inrikesministeriet. Eucap Somalia är en insats inom EU:s gemensamma säkerhets- och försvarspolitik med syftet att bland annat främja sjösäkerheten i Somalia och att stödja uppbyggandet av polisväsendet och justitieförvaltningen i landet.

31.8.2023 | Finland sent a large amount of wastewater treatment plant equipment to Ukraine at the end of August. The equipment will make a significant contribution to helping Ukraine meet its water supply needs, which have grown during the summer. Finland and the EU have continued their active support of the Ukrainian authorities to mitigate the effects of the Russian attacks.

21.7.2023 | During the summer, Finland has sent water purification materials, water containers, pumps and intensive chlorination units to Ukraine to strengthen the country’s water supply. In addition, new shipments of water production materials and wastewater purification equipment are under preparation. Finland will continue to support Ukraine.

23.10.2023 | Finland and the EU have continued their active support for the Ukrainian authorities to mitigate the effects of the Russian attacks. The Ministry of the Interior coordinates the assistance that Finland sends to Ukraine through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism together with the European Emergency Response Coordination Centre ERCC. Most of the material sent to Ukraine has been donated by private and public sector operators.

14.8.2023 | Finland is deploying the first group of 24 rescue workers on Wednesday 16 August to help Portugal manage wildfires.

29.12.2022 | Finland has sent more energy sector supplies and hospital supplies to Ukraine. Last week, Finland also delivered school furniture for the first time. This year, Finland has delivered a total of 55 trucks of civilian material assistance to Ukraine. New assistance packages are being prepared, among other things, for the energy sector.

21.6.2023 | Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Finland has delivered civilian material assistance to Ukraine. This assistance has consisted mainly of donations from the private and public sectors. The Ministry of the Interior is coordinating the provision of assistance to Ukraine through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.

Ändringarna främjar för sin del den utbildnings- och arbetsrelaterade invandringen och gör inreseförfarandena smidigare. Republikens president stadfäste lagändringarna den 20 december.

21.6.2023 | Sedan Ryssland inledde sitt anfallskrig mot Ukraina har Finland skickat civilt materialbistånd till Ukraina. En stor del av det materiella biståndet är donationer från offentliga och privata aktörer. Inrikesministeriet samordnar lämnandet av bistånd till Ukraina via EU:s civilskyddsmekanism.

29.12.2022 | Finland har sänt mer utrustning inom energisektorn och sjukhusutrustning till Ukraina. Förra veckan levererades för första gången också skolmöbler från Finland till Ukraina. I år har Finland skickat sammanlagt 55 långtradare med civilt materialbistånd till Ukraina. Nya biståndshelheter bereds bland annat för energisektorn.

20.10.2022 | The Government aims to improve the status of victims of human trafficking and strengthen their right to services, regardless of the progress of related criminal proceedings in a human trafficking case. The purpose is to loosen the link between assistance to victims and criminal proceedings by amending the Act on the Reception of Persons Applying for International Protection and on the Identification of and Assistance to Victims of Trafficking in Human Beings.

16.9.2021 | Regeringens proposition om ett visum för längre vistelser, ett nationellt D-visum, underlättar arbetskraftsinvandring och främjar det snabbare förfarandet för inresetillstånd, den så kallade expressfilen. I den första fasen av reformen är det nationella D-visumet avsett för experter, tillväxtföretagare och deras familjemedlemmar.

Till rundabordsmötet hade bjudits in erfarenhetsexperter, aktörer som sysslar med förebyggande ungdomsarbete och myndigheter.

8.6.2023 | The Justice and Home Affairs Council will meet in Luxembourg on 8 June. Finland will be represented at the meeting by Markku Keinänen, Head of Mission to the Permanent Representation of Finland to the EU. One of the topics on the agenda of the meeting of home affairs ministers is the reform of the EU’s asylum system. The aim is to reach agreement on two proposals for regulations, which are essential to the whole, in order to proceed with the negotiations with the European Parliament.

8.3.2023 | Immigration Dialogues, a series of discussions coordinated by the Ministry of the Interior, brought nearly 700 people together to talk about immigration. The discussions held in the autumn of 2022 aimed to provide people from different backgrounds with an opportunity to present their ideas and increase understanding of immigration. The final report will be published on 8 March.

28.8.2023 | Finland's civil defence shelters are largely in good repair, but there is still some need for maintenance and repairs. A new Ministry of the Interior study shows that more than 90 per cent of civil defence shelters would provide people with good protection against the effects of conventional weapons. Shelter equipment is in most need of repair. Based on the report, the Ministry of the Interior has drawn up four recommendations for improving the network of civil defence shelters.
