    24.5.2024 | The interior ministers of Finland, Norway, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland met in Latvia's capital, Riga, on 23 and 24 May. The ministers discussed the countries' common security challenges, especially those concerning the EU's external borders. Finland was represented at the meeting by Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen. She briefed her colleagues about the Finnish Government's proposal on a border security act, which had just been submitted to Parliament.

  2. Staterna vid EU:s yttre gränser har gemensamma säkerhetsutmaningar - Inrikesministeriet

    24.5.2024 | Finlands, Norges, Estlands, Litauens, Lettlands och Polens inrikesministrar sammanträdde i Lettlands huvudstad Riga den 23–24 maj. Ministrarna diskuterade ländernas gemensamma säkerhetsutmaningar särskilt med tanke på EU:s yttre gränser. Finland representeras vid mötet av inrikesminister Mari Rantanen. Hon berättade för sina kolleger om den regeringsproposition om gränssäkerhetslagen som just överlämnades till riksdagen.

  3. Proposal for introducing new border procedure submitted to Parliament - Ministry of the Interior

    18.4.2024 | On 18 April, the Government submitted to Parliament a proposal for introducing a new border procedure. The Aliens Act will be amended in line with the EU Asylum Procedures Directive to introduce the new border procedure in Finland. The purpose of the border procedure is to enhance the examination of unfounded applications and the return of applicants whose application has been rejected. In addition, this will prevent secondary movements of asylum seekers to other EU countries.

  6. Finland's eastern border to remain closed - Ministry of the Interior

    8.2.2024 | The Government has decided that the border crossing points on the land border between Finland and Russia will remain closed until 14 April 2024. It will also not be possible to submit applications for international protection at any border crossing points on the land border between Finland and Russia. The Government decided on the matter in its session on 8 February 2024.

    16.11.2023 | Valtioneuvosto on päättänyt sulkea osan Suomen itärajasta. Vaalimaan, Nuijamaan, Imatran ja Niiralan rajanylityspaikat suljetaan 18.11.2023 alkaen. Kansainvälisen suojelun hakeminen Suomen ja Venäjän maarajalla keskitetään Vartiuksen ja Sallan rajanylityspaikoille. Asiasta päätettiin torstaina valtioneuvoston istunnossa. Päätös on voimassa 18.2.2024 asti.

  8. The Act on the Interoperability of the European Union’s Information Systems circulated for comments - Ministry of the Interior

    16.6.2021 | The Ministry of the Interior is circulating for comments a draft government proposal for the Act on the Interoperability of the European Union’s Information Systems. The Act would enable the police, Finnish Customs and the Finnish Border Guard to make queries in the common identity repository of the European Union’s information systems for the purpose of identifying a person.
