    11.6.2025 | The Ministry of the Interior has issued a new decree on smoke alarms. The decree lays down provisions on the minimum number of smoke alarms, as is the case at present. In addition, the decree specifies how smoke alarms must be placed. The aim is to clarify the regulation on smoke alarms and to make it easier to comply with the regulation. The decree was drafted to correspond to the amendments made to the Rescue Act. It will enter into force on 1 January 2026.

  2. Villkoren för permanent uppehållstillstånd skärps - Inrikesministeriet

    22.12.2025 | Villkoren för permanent uppehållstillstånd skärps bland annat så att den oavbrutna vistelsetid som krävs förlängs. Av sökanden förutsätts dessutom större oförvitlighet, kunskaper i finska eller svenska samt en viss tid i arbetslivet. Republikens president stadfäste ändringarna av utlänningslagen den 22 december. Ändringarna träder i kraft den 8 januari 2026.

    22.12.2025 | Finland håller på att införa ett medborgarskapsprov. Som ett nytt villkor för förvärv av finskt medborgarskap föreslås kunskaper om det finländska samhället. Inrikesministeriet har sänt en proposition med förslag till ändring av medborgarskapslagen och vissa andra lagar på remiss.

  4. Citizenship test to assess knowledge of Finnish society and its key principles - Ministry of the Interior

    22.12.2025 | Finland is set to introduce a citizenship test. Civic knowledge would be added as a new requirement for acquiring citizenship. The Ministry of the Interior has sent out for comments proposed amendments to the Citizenship Act and certain other acts.
