25.1.2018 | The Government plans to strengthen the powers of the Finnish Border Guard to quickly and effectively intervene in hybrid threats. The new restrictions aim to reduce cross-border traffic in order to prevent the spread of the new COVID-19 variants. Better preparedness for hybrid threats will improve the Border Guard's crisis resilience and capacity to manage large-scale incidents. The Government submitted the amendments to the Border Guard Act, the Aliens Act and certain related acts for approval on 10 January. The President of the Republic is to approve the amendments on 11 January.

12.6.2020 | Statsrådet beslutade den 12 juni att gränskontrollen vid de inre gränserna delvis ska fortsätta och att trafiken över de yttre gränserna fortsättningsvis ska begränsas fram till den 14 juli 2020. Begränsningarna förlängs till den del de anses vara nödvändiga med anledning av det allvarliga hot som smittoläget medför.
