14.12.2017 | The Ministry of the Interior has published the first national CBRNE Strategy which aims to prevent the misuse of chemical substances (C), biological pathogens (B), radioactive material (R), nuclear weapons (N) and explosives (E).

4.10.2018 | The operating conditions of the Crisis Management Centre Finland (CMC Finland) will be strengthened and the rights and responsibilities of experts deployed abroad will be clarified. On 4 October, the Government submitted a proposal to Parliament on the amendment of the Acts concerning civilian crisis management. The intention is for the amendments to enter into force on 1 January 2019.

31.8.2017 | On 31 August 2017, the Government appointed General Staff Officer Jukka Savolainen as Director of the Community of Interest focusing on vulnerabilities and resilience at the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats. The appointment is for the period between 1 October 2017 and 31 August 2022.

5.10.2017 | The Internal Security Strategy, A Safe and Secure Life, is a road map for ensuring that Finland will be the safest country in the world, as envisaged in the Government Programme. Good internal security means that everyone can enjoy the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the rule of law without fear or insecurity caused by crime, disorder, accidents or national or international events. The Government adopted a Resolution on the Internal Security Strategy on 5 October.

19.9.2017 | The budget of the Ministry of the Interior’s administrative branch for 2018 is approximately EUR 1.5 billion, which is, as a whole, EUR 56 million less than in the approved 2017 Budget figure. The changes in appropriations are mainly due to the fact that less funding is needed for the reception of refugees and asylum seekers than last year.

21.3.2024 | In the first supplementary budget for 2024, the Government proposes over EUR 91 million in additional funding for the administrative branch of the Ministry of the Interior. Of this sum, EUR 86.174 million will be allocated to the Border Guard, EUR 2 million to the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service and EUR 3 million for the further development of the security authorities’ Multi-Agency Field Commanding System (KEJO).
