31.10.2022 | Finland has sent two international civil protection experts to Havana, Cuba, to support the training of local urban search and rescue personnel. Having identified a lack of expertise among Havana’s local authorities in conducting rescue from collapsed structures, Cuba requested international assistance to train urban search and rescue workers. The experts left Finland on Monday 31 October.

4.3.2022 | The Ministry of the Interior has decided to send three experts to Moldova to assist in coordinating the humanitarian assistance needed by people fleeing Ukraine. The experts left Finland on Friday morning.

8.2.2022 | The Ministry of the Interior has decided to send two experts to Madagascar, where tropical cyclone Batsirai has caused extensive damage due to heavy rains, strong wind and floods. Pelastusopisto – Emergency Services Academy Finland is the employer of the posted experts.

14.4.2022 | The Ministry of the Interior has decided to send two experts to Poland and Slovakia to assist in coordinating the humanitarian assistance needed by people fleeing Ukraine. 2.9.2021 | The recruitment procedure for civilian crisis management experts to be sent abroad will be developed. The Government submitted a legislative proposal on the matter to Parliament on 2 September. The aim is for Finland to have at its disposal a sufficiently large, diverse and competent group of experts for civilian crisis management tasks. Attention will also be given to the impact of civilian crisis management work on the human resources of public sector employers.  

11.3.2021 | The Ministry of the Interior has decided to send two experts to Bata, Equatorial Guinea, where an explosion at a munitions depot has caused extensive destruction. Equatorial Guinea has requested international assistance in the rescue operations following the explosion accident. The Emergency Services Academy Finland will serve as the employer of the posted experts.

1.6.2022 | A new fast track service enables specialists, growth entrepreneurs and their family members to obtain a residence permit within 14 days. The service will be launched at the beginning of June. This service pledge is one of the Government's many measures to streamline the immigration of experts. 

17.10.2025 | Rescue Borealis-övningshelheten, som genomfördes i Finland i augusti–oktober 2025, samlade cirka 700 yrkespersoner inom hälso- och sjukvården, räddningsväsendet och andra säkerhetsmyndigheter från Finland, Sverige, Norge och Tyskland. Denna myndighetsgemensamma övning inom CBRN-branschen, som fokuserade på kemiska, biologiska, radiologiska och nukleära hot och som i huvudsak finansierades av Europeiska kommissionen, var veterligen den största i Europa under de senaste åren.

6.8.2020 | The Ministry of the Interior has decided to send expert and material assistance to Beirut through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism due to an explosion. Lebanon has requested international assistance from the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, where Finland is a member.

3.12.2019 | Anti-trafficking coordinators and rapporteurs on human trafficking from EU Member States will meet on the invitation of EU Anti-Trafficking Coordinator Myria Vassiliadou in Brussels on 4–5 December. The meeting is organised as part of Finland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

13.5.2026 | Finlands rescEU Medical/CBRN-beredskapslager uppnådde full materiell beredskap i slutet av april. Alla produkter som anges i den ursprungliga planen har nu anskaffats, lagrats och kan sändas ut. Tidsplanen hölls tack vare ett smidigt samarbete mellan de olika aktörerna.

12.8.2020 | Some of the Finnish civil protection experts deployed through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism will return home from Beirut after their mission ends. The task of the experts ends in Beirut because the focus of international assistance has shifted from acute rescue operations to the reception of material assistance and other assistance activities.

25.4.2017 | The Ministry of the Interior has decided to send two urban search and rescue experts to Bhutan through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. The experts will be investigating the possibility of establishing a training centre to develop urban search and rescue operations in Bhutan. The operation is estimated to last from mid-May to early June.

27.9.2019 | The Ministry of the Interior has decided to send expert and material assistance to Albania through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism to help with the recovery efforts following earthquakes and floods. Albania has requested international assistance from the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, to which Finland belongs.

16.9.2019 | The Conference on Preventing Violent Radicalisation will bring together a wide range of international experts at Finlandia Hall, Helsinki, on 17–18 September 2019. They will discuss the prevention of violent radicalisation from the viewpoint of research, practical experiences and the work of public authorities.

18.1.2018 | A new type of residence permit will be introduced for growth or startup entrepreneurs. The application process for an extended permit will also be simplified, and the validity period of a first residence permit for specialists will be extended. The Government submitted the new bill amending the Aliens Act for approval on Thursday 18 January. The President of the Republic is to approve the bill on Friday 30 January.

10.12.2025 | Välfärdsområdesreformen har framskridit som planerat i hela landet, men det finns fortfarande mycket att göra. Detta visar en omfattande halvtidsutvärdering av välfärdsområdesreformen som har gjorts av en oberoende expertgrupp.

8.12.2025 | Inrikesministeriet och räddningstjänsten i Ukraina SESU (State Emergency Service of Ukraine) har kommit överens om att fördjupa samarbetet inom olika verksamhetssektorer. I samarbetet betonas stödet till den internationella koalition som stöder byggandet av skyddsrum i Ukraina. 

5.11.2025 | Inrikesminister Mari Rantanen och Ukrainas inrikesminister Ihor Klymenko diskuterade via videolänk onsdagen den 5 november. Ministrarna diskuterade bland annat samarbetet mellan Finlands och Ukrainas säkerhetsmyndigheter och Ukrainas nya behov av stöd.

2.4.2025 | Jordbävningen i Myanmar fredagen den 28 mars och efterskalven har orsakat omfattande skador. Genom inrikesministeriets beslut sänder Finland en expert via EU:s civilskyddsmekanism till Bangkok. Experten har till uppgift att stödja samordningen av det bistånd som sänds till Myanmar. Arbetet varar i två veckor (den 2–15 april 2025).

23.4.2025 | Finland har lämnat materialbistånd till jordbävningsområdet i Myanmar genom EU:s civilskyddsmekanism. På begäran av Myanmar har vi sänt förvaringstält, tälthallar och vattenreningstabletter till landet.

10.12.2025 | En oberoende expertgrupp har gjort en omfattande halvtidsutvärdering av välfärdsområdesreformen, som publicerades den 10 december. Social- och hälsovårdsminister Kaisa Juuso, kommun- och regionminister Anna-Kaisa Ikonen och inrikesminister Mari Rantanen anser att resultaten av halvtidsutvärderingen är viktiga.

2.4.2025 | Libyen har via EU:s civilskyddsmekanism bett EU-länderna om teknisk expertis för att utreda orsaken till bostadsbränder. En expert från Finland deltar på distans i den tekniska gruppens arbete den 2-11 april 2025.

11.9.2025 | Finland ordnar den internationella övningen Rescue Borealis 2025, som samlar hundratals experter från Finland och utlandet. Övningen stärker myndigheternas samarbete i euroarktiska gränsöverskridande nödsituationer. Fältdelen av övningen kommer att äga rum 29.9–3.10.2025 i Uleåborgsområdet.

18.6.2025 | Statsrådet utnämnde vid sitt allmänna sammanträde den 18 juni Heikki Tamminen till statssekreterare hos inrikesminister Mari Rantanen.

18.8.2025 | Finland har genom beslut av inrikesministeriet skickat en räddningsformation som har specialiserat sig på släckning av terrängbränder till Spanien för att hjälpa till med att få kontroll över de pågående terrängbränderna i landet. Styrkan arbetar i Spanien i cirka en vecka.

26.8.2025 | Minister för social trygghet Sanni Grahn-Laasonen och inrikesminister Mari Rantanen har bjudit in hälso- och säkerhetsmyndigheterna och andra experter för att diskutera drogen alfa-PVP, i gatuhandeln även känd under det finska namnet ”peukku”. Målet är att hitta sätt att effektivare ingripa i de problem och negativa följdverkningar som är förknippade med drogen.

13.3.2025 | Inrikesminister Mari Rantanen besökte Ukraina den 11–12 mars och träffade då Ukrainas inrikesminister Ihor Klymenko. Ministern bekantade sig också med olika funktioner inom Ukrainas inrikesförvaltning, såsom en lägescentral och räddningspersoners och gränsbevakningsväsendets verksamhet.
