6.7.2020 | The EU home affairs ministers will meet at the first informal meeting of Interior Ministers during Germany’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 7 July. The meeting will be held as a video conference. The Ministers will discuss the development of European law enforcement cooperation and search and rescue operations in the Mediterranean Sea. 13.10.2020 | The Ministerial Working Group on Health and Social Services has reviewed the opinions submitted in the round of comments held from 15 June to 25 September 2020 on its draft government proposal. As a result, the Government has made a number of policy adjustments and amendments to the draft. A total of 804 comments were received. 30.1.2020 | On 30 January, the Government appointed Taito Vainio as Director of the Emergency Response Centre Agency. Vainio holds a Master’s degree in Social Sciences and a Master's degree in Technology. He will take up his post on 1 March and his term of office will last for five years. 14.12.2021 | Today, ministers responsible for civil preparedness or their deputies from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland and Finland met via videoconference in the framework of so-called Haga cooperation. The act on the programming period 2021–2027 lays down provisions on managing the programmes under the Funds and on implementing the aid system. 23.10.2020 | A report on safety and security in sparsely populated areas has been completed. The report brings together up-to-date information on phenomena and challenges affecting safety and security in sparsely populated areas and lists five recommended measures to increase safety and sense of security in these areas. 28.2.2019 | The Ministry of the Interior requested local rescue departments to conduct a survey on the safety of exiting so-called escape rooms in their area. The survey was carried out in cooperation with the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency TUKES that monitors the safety of consumer services in Finland. 1.8.2018 | Sweden has requested Finland to continue to help in extinguishing forest fires in the country. The Ministry of the Interior made a decision on 1 August to continue the assistance until 10 August.
