EU ministers for foreign affairs will hold an informal meeting on 11 August to discuss Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East. Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will represent Finland at the meeting.

At their informal meeting, the foreign ministers will discuss Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.

“All of our actions aim to put an end to Russia's war of aggression and to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. A ceasefire would be the first necessary step towards constructive negotiations. Unfortunately, Russia has not been ready for a ceasefire, which is why we must increase pressure on Russia even further,” says Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen.

“A lasting peace requires respect for Ukraine's sovereignty and international law,” says Minister Valtonen.

The informal meeting will also focus on the current situation in the Middle East.

“Israel's decision to take over Gaza City causes great concern. Finland calls for a swift ceasefire in Gaza, an end to the war and the release of hostages. International humanitarian law must be respected without exceptions,” says Minister Valtonen.
