Several glossaries updated in Government Termbank Valter

The Translation and Language Division at the Prime Minister’s Office has published new content in the Government Termbank Valter. The updated glossaries include names of agencies, offence designations and terminology related to NATO, integration, parliamentary work and intelligence.

The Government Termbank Valter now contains a new edition of the Integration GlossaryLink to an external website drawn up under the leadership of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, which harmonises the use of concepts and services described in the Integration Act. The glossary has terms in Finnish, Swedish and English.

The NATO Glossary has been expanded with new sections related to military presence and document types. The glossary provides the recommended Finnish and Swedish equivalents for English terms and is available in the Government Termbank ValterLink to an external website and as a separate glossary on the government websiteFile opens in a new tab pdf 3.6MB .

The Glossary of Government Agencies and Public BodiesLink to an external website has been updated. The glossary includes the names of Finnish ministries together with agencies and bodies operating under their administrative branches. The glossary compiled by the Prime Minister’s Office provides translation equivalents in Swedish, English, French and Russian. The glossary has also been published as open data on the avoindata.fi websiteLink to an external website.

Around 700 new concepts have been added to the Terms Used in Various Administrative Branches glossaryLink to an external website, mainly terms from the Criminal Code and the Coercive Measures Act and intelligence-related terms. At the same time, some terms from the Extensive Glossary related to the Health, Social and Rescue Services ReformFile opens in a new tab pdf 8.1MB , which is part of the Terms Used in Various Administrative Branches glossary, have been corrected. The updated extensive glossary of health and social services terms and the Intelligence Glossary have also been published as separate glossaries (PDFs) on the government website.

The Finnish Parliamentary GlossaryLink to an external website, updated by Parliament in 2024, has also been added to the termbank. In addition, some recommended terms in the Higher Education GlossaryLink to an external website and the Budget GlossaryLink to an external website have been corrected.
