Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s Government agreed on the General Government Fiscal Plan for 2025–2028 on 16 April 2024. According to the plan, the level of appropriations for the Ministry of the Interior’s branch of government will decrease each year. The decrease in the spending limits of the Ministry of the Interior is due to the elimination of one-off increases, a decrease in reception expenditure and the savings allocated to the branch of government.
Finnish Government to draw up national security strategy

The Finnish Government will draw up a national security strategy as part of the development of an operating model for the management of national security at the Government level. The strategy aims to identify and assess the most serious threats against Finland in more efficient and extensive ways through cooperation across administrative boundaries.
Ministry of the Interior requests comments on amendments to the Citizenship Act concerning period of residence

The Ministry of the Interior has requested comments on a draft version of amendments to the Citizenship Act concerning the period of residence. The public consultation will end on 4 March 2024. According to the proposed amendments, the period of residence required for Finnish citizenship would be extended from the current five years to eight years.
