Government proposal for a border security act submitted to Parliament

The Government submitted a proposal to Parliament for an act on temporary measures to combat instrumentalised migration on 21 May. The aim of the act is to improve border security and ensure that Finland has effective means at its disposal to combat instrumentalised migration that is being used to pressure Finland. The aim is also to prepare for more serious instances of instrumentalised migration.

Proposal for tightening regulation on detention and entry bans sent out for comments

The Ministry of the Interior has sent out for comments a draft act that would tighten provisions on detention and revise the provisions on entry bans of the Aliens Act. In addition, the act would provide for the possibility of withdrawing a residence permit from an alien staying outside Finland and imposing an entry ban for security reasons. The deadline for submitting comments is 28 th June 2024.

Finland and Sweden to intensify police cooperation in border area

The agreement on police cooperation in the border area between Finland and Sweden will further improve the maintenance of security in the northern border area. The President of the Republic is to approve the agreement and the relevant bills on Friday.
