24.4.2025 | The Act on Emergency Warnings will be amended to include a provision on powers of municipal health protection authorities to issue emergency warnings. The Government proposed in its session on 24 April that the President of the Republic approve the amendment to the Act on Emergency Warnings. The President of the Republic is scheduled to approve the amendment on Friday and it will enter into force on 2 May 2025.

8.4.2022 | On assignment by the Government, the Finnish Immigration Service has prepared a procedure where persons in temporary protection are granted the reception services they need without municipalities establishing a reception centre. 29.4.2026 | The Ministry of the Interior has set up a project to prepare the necessary amendments to the provision of the Aliens Act on sufficient financial resources for family reunification. In future, a government decree would lay down provisions on the euro amounts required to demonstrate sufficient financial resources. This requirement would apply to family members of people who live in Finland with a residence permit.

5.3.2026 | Finland has provided Ukraine with an extensive package of equipment for combating oil spills. The package included donations compiled by the Finnish Border Guard and rescue departments, and materials procured by the Ministry of the Interior. A total of 35 truckloads of oil spill response equipment were delivered to Ukraine.

3.2.2026 | As part of the European Union, Finland bears its share of responsibility for the impacts of Russia’s invasion in Ukraine. Public authorities alone cannot respond to the extensive need for aid; instead, assistance must be provided through broader cooperation. The Ministry of the Interior coordinates the provision of civilian material assistance to Ukraine through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.

3.2.2023 | More than 45,000 people who fled Ukraine last year may be eligible for a municipality of residence in 2023 after residing in Finland for one year, with about 13,000 already satisfying the qualifying period of residence in March–April. On registering a municipality of residence, they will leave the reception services system and become clients of municipalities and wellbeing services counties. This will make them a more integrated part of society in Finland.
