Finland to look into adoption of secure satellite connections

The European Union will begin providing secure satellite connections to its Member States at the end of this year. The plan is to offer Members States high-speed broadband connectivity in areas where no terrestrial connections are available. In April, the Ministry of the Interior launched a preliminary study on the adoption of secure satellite connections.

On Wednesday 13 September, the Government appointed Eriikka Koistinen, Master of Social Sciences, as Director of Communications at the Ministry of the Interior from 18 September 2023 to 17 September 2028.

The position and role of women and children in radical Islamist terrorist organisations are under special review in the new situation overview of violent extremism. According to the 2017 overview, more than half of the suspected crimes reported to the police where an extremist motive was indicated were associated with violent right-wing extremism.
