15.5.2025 | In March, the European Commission submitted a proposal for a new return regulation that aims to improve the effectiveness of the return of persons staying illegally in the EU and to prevent unauthorised movements within the Schengen area. The regulation would replace the current Return Directive. 8.7.2022 | On 27 April, the European Commission issued a package on reforming legal migration. The package included a Communication on attracting skills and talent to the EU, and proposals for the revision of the Single Permit Directive and the Long-Term Residents Directive. 10.2.2022 | The European Commission wants to harmonise measures taken by the Member States at the EU’s external borders in various crisis situations. The Commission issued a proposal for amending the Schengen Borders Code in December. The aim is to develop the Member States’ joint actions at the external and internal borders and in the area of free movement. 3.10.2022 | The Ministry of the Interior launched the autumn call for proposals for the EU Home Affairs Funds on 3 October 2022. A total of EUR 86.7 million in funding can be applied for from the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF), the Internal Security Fund (ISF) and the Instrument for Financial Support for Border Management and Visa Policy (BMVI). 13.6.2024 | EU home affairs ministers will gather in Luxembourg on 13 June for a meeting of the Justice and Home Affairs Council. The topics on the agenda include the continuation of temporary protection for Ukrainians fleeing Russia's war of aggression, the implementation of the asylum and migration reform, and the EU’s common crisis preparedness. 28.1.2021 | The resilience of critical entities in EU countries will be improved by reforming the old European Critical Infrastructure Protection Directive. The proposed new directive is significantly more extensive, and it aims to improve the resilience of critical entities providing essential services in the EU. 27.2.2020 | In its decision on 27 February, the Government confirmed the policy of the government groups to assist vulnerable asylum seekers.
