Government decides to establish registration centres to improve security
In an extraordinary session held on 24 November, the Government decided that people arriving across the eastern border will be processed at registration centres.
The decision will ensure that people who do not meet the conditions for entry and who have not yet been identified and registered by the authorities will not be able to reside freely in Finland.
Registration centres are one way that the authorities can respond to the border situation created by Russia and maintain security in Finland. Provisions on the establishment of registration centres are laid down in the Aliens Act.
People entering Finland across the eastern border will be obliged to stay in a supervised registration centre for the duration of the registration process.
The Finnish Immigration Service is responsible for establishing registration centres.
The decision will be in force until 23 December 2023.
