Jukka Savolainen appointed Director of the Community of Interest focusing on vulnerabilities and resilience at the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats

On 31 August 2017, the Government appointed General Staff Officer Jukka Savolainen as Director of the Community of Interest focusing on vulnerabilities and resilience at the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats. The appointment is for the period between 1 October 2017 and 31 August 2022.

Savolainen has served as Commander at the West Finland Coast Guard District since 2010. Earlier he has worked as Deputy Director General of the Border Guard Headquarters’ Border and Coast Guard Division and as national expert at the Directorate-General for Justice and Home Affairs of the General Secretariat of Council of the European Union.

Finland is in charge of the Community of Interest focusing on vulnerabilities and resilience at the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats. Savolainen will be responsible for setting up and managing the operation of the Communitiy of Interest. The main aim is to reduce the participating states’ and cooperation partners’ vulnerabilities and improve their resilience to hybrid threats.

The European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats promotes the countering of hybrid threats at strategic level. The Centre builds up multinational networks among actors involved in comprehensive security and serves as a platform for EU-NATO cooperation as regards the assessment of vulnerabilities and development of joint resilience preparedness. Currently, 12 EU and/or NATO member countries participate in the activities of the Centre. The EU and NATO are also actively involved in the Centre’s operation.
