Ms Päivi Nerg appointed as new Permanent Secretary
Today the Government appointed Ms Päivi Nerg, Master of Science (Agriculture and Forestry), as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior for a seven-year term from 1 October 2012 to 30 September 2019.
Ms Nerg has worked as the Director of Administrative Governance and Development at the Ministry of Finance since 2009. Before that, she was the director responsible for the merger of two universities, the University of Joensuu and the University of Kuopio, which formed the University of Eastern Finland. She previously also worked as the Director of Administration and Director of the Centre for Training and Development at the University of Kuopio. Furthermore, Ms Nerg has experience in the business sector, having worked for Atria Plc and Lihapolar.
The Permanent Secretary assists the Minister in directing, developing and supervising the activities of the Ministry and the agencies under it. A total of 21 people applied for the post before the deadline.
Mr Pentti Partanen has been the acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior since the beginning of June, and he will continue in the post until the end of September.
