Finland seeks to establish practical cooperation with Russian immigration authorities

The immigration authorities of Finland and Russia will meet on 1.12. Based on the joint declaration signed on 22.3.2016 by Finland's Ministry of the Interior and Russia's immigration authorities, the aim of the meeting is to further cooperation between authorities of the two countries. The parties to the joint declaration committed themselves to improve cooperation in immigration matters and in preventing illegal immigration.
There will be exchange of information regarding the current migration situation, the organisation of immigrant administrations and the main features of asylum systems. There will also be exchange of preliminary views on how cooperation could be developed, in line with the joint declaration, in the future.
While Finland's goal is to establish concrete and permanent cooperation between Finnish and Russian immigrant administrations cooperation with third countries is vital for Finland to control immigration. Finland plays an active role in furthering the goal both bilaterally and on the regional level.
