Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen met with Somalia's Minister of Internal Security Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail in Helsinki on 23 June. The meeting was a continuation of Minister Rantanen’s visit to Mogadishu earlier this year. Its purpose was to further strengthen relations between Finland and Somalia in the field of internal security and to agree on the next steps in cooperation on return issues.

The interior ministers of Finland, Norway, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and Sweden will meet in Estonia on 19 and 20 June. The topics on their agenda include border issues and the situation in the Baltic Sea. Finland will be represented at the meeting by Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen.
New powers for Finnish Border Guard to prevent and investigate certain offences

The Finnish Border Guard will be given new powers concerning the prevention and investigation of human trafficking offences and money laundering offences. The Government submitted the Act on Crime Prevention by the Finnish Border Guard and certain other acts for approval on 18 June. The President of the Republic is scheduled to approve the amendments on 27 June, and they will enter into force on 1 September.
