7.6.2022 | The Ministry of the Interior has commissioned a study on the reflection periods granted to victims of human trafficking during which the victims can decide whether to cooperate with the authorities in apprehending those suspected of human trafficking. At the same time, it will be examined how suspicions of trading in sexual services are taken into account in cases where denial of stay is being considered.

16.9.2020 | One of the aims of the Government Programme of Prime Minister Marin’s Government is to ensure that Finland is a safe and secure state governed by the rule of law, offers a stronger sense of security and secures the operational capability of the security authorities. The 2021 budget proposal includes a total of EUR 1.568 billion in appropriations for the Ministry of the Interior’s branch of government.

18.3.2021 | The Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment have ordered a review of the grounds on which victims of human trafficking are granted residence permits. The review will be conducted by the Non-Discrimination Ombudsman acting as the national human trafficking rapporteur. The aim is to investigate how the Finnish Immigration Service applies the special regulation of the Aliens Act to the continuous residence permit granted to trafficking victims.

5.5.2021 | In line with the Government Programme, the Action Plan for the Prevention of Irregular Entry and Stay has been updated for the period 2021–2024. The purpose of the Action Plan is to tackle comprehensively irregular entry and stay, cross-border crime and the emergence of a parallel society outside the Finnish society.

3.9.2024 | The 2025 budget proposal of Prime Minister Orpo's Government bolsters conditions for economic growth. Economic growth driven by the private sector will also serve to secure the financing base for central government finances. The fast-acting measures to curb indebtedness that were decided on due to the difficult situation in central government finances will move forward.

5.9.2017 | Finland, Norway, Sweden and Russia are participating in a Barents Rescue Exercise in Petrozavodsk, Russia, between 4 and 8 September 2017. Barents Rescue Exercises are held every two years, and the previous one was organised in Finland in 2015. This year’s exercise is already the eighth of its kind.
