1.12.2025 | The obligation to purchase and maintain smoke alarms will be transferred from the resident to the owner of the building on 1 January 2026. Building owners, that is housing companies and rental housing companies, have made good use of the two-year transition period following the amendments to the Rescue Act and have taken the necessary measures in good time.

4.5.2023 | The European Commission will carry out a Schengen evaluation in Finland in May and June 2023. Evaluation teams coordinated by the Commission will travel across Finland to evaluate how the Finnish authorities apply the Schengen acquis in its different areas.

13.7.2018 | Finland will reinstate temporary border controls at its internal EU borders to support the security arrangements for the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Internal border controls will start on Friday 13 July at 12.00 and end on Tuesday 17 July at 12.00. The Finnish Government decided on 13 July that temporary border controls be reinstated at the internal borders.
