16.6.2026 | A citizenship test will be introduced in Finland at the beginning of 2027. The test will assess knowledge of Finnish society and its key principles. The President of the Republic approved the amendments to the Citizenship Act on 16 June. 16.4.2026 | Finland plans to introduce a citizenship test to assess applicants’ knowledge of how Finnish society works and its key principles. The Government submitted the proposal to Parliament on 16 April. The test would be introduced after the legislative amendments enter into force at the beginning of 2027.

22.12.2025 | Finland is set to introduce a citizenship test. Civic knowledge would be added as a new requirement for acquiring citizenship. The Ministry of the Interior has sent out for comments proposed amendments to the Citizenship Act and certain other acts.

8.12.2025 | The Finnish Ministry of the Interior and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) have agreed to deepen cooperation across different sectors. The cooperation emphasises support for Ukraine's international civil defence coalition. 

17.10.2025 | The Rescue Borealis exercise, conducted in Finland between August and October 2025, brought together around 700 professionals from healthcare, rescue services and other security authorities from Finland, Sweden, Norway and Germany. This multi-agency exercise, which was mainly funded by the European Commission and focused on chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats (CBRN), was reportedly the largest of its kind in Europe in recent years.

28.11.2024 | Government ministers and their deputies responsible for civil preparedness and provision in the Nordic countries met in Oslo on 28 November. The meeting took place in new circumstances, with all of the Nordic countries now members of NATO. Finland was represented at the meeting by Interior Minister Mari Rantanen.
