Government session to decide on border security act on week beginning 15 July
The Government is expected to make a decision on the border security act at an extraordinary session on the week beginning 15 July.
On Friday, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen held a media briefing in Parliament's Hall of State to discuss the border security act.
"It is important that we have legislation that makes it possible to combat instrumentalised migration and ensure that public authorities can act even in the most difficult situations at the border," said Prime Minister Orpo.
The ministers emphasised that the new border security act is about safeguarding Finland’s national security and sovereignty.
"Russia has used instrumentalised migration against Finland. Finland is governed by the rule of law. We cannot accept that people are being used as tools in hybrid actions," said Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen.
