Introduction of online service for the system for information on weapons postponed
The introduction of the online service under the Firearms Act will be postponed. The reason for the postponement is that the police’s system for information on weapons is still incomplete. The Ministry of the Interior set up a legislative project on 18 July to amend the law with respect to the entry into force of the online service. The legislative proposal will be sent on a round of consultations at the same time.
Under the Firearms Act, the online service would have entered into force on 1 December 2018. Owing to the delay in the information system, the schedule will be postponed. The current estimate is that it would be possible to adopt phase 1 of the system sometime between December 2019 and spring 2020.
The amendment being made will not alter the content of the Firearms Act. It is a purely technical amendment and only changes the date of entry into force of the online service.
The consultation round on the legislative proposal terminates in 22 August. The project term is from 18 July to 1 December 2018.
