Finland continues its strong support for Ukraine
Between January and July this year, Finland donated a total of 31 rescue service vehicles to Ukraine. Other civilian material assistance amounted to 32 truckloads of supplies.
Ukraine's need for assistance continues extensive and varied. At the moment, the emphasis is on providing Ukraine with rescue service vehicles and supplies for the energy sector and the healthcare sector.
This year, Finland has sent to Ukraine fire engines, control units, ambulances, generators and hospital equipment and supplies. The functioning of Ukrainian society has also been supported by means of communications equipment and bus donations.
Ukraine's rescue services are vulnerable to attacks
The attacks on Ukraine's rescue services are also reflected in the need for material assistance. Russia has systematically carried out double strikes targeting Ukrainian rescue service personnel working at missile attack scenes.
Effective assistance through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism
Civilian assistance material from Finland is delivered to Ukraine through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. The mechanism allows EU Member States and countries participating in the Civil Protection Mechanism to submit offers of assistance which the receiving country then accepts based on its needs. The system channels individual countries' offers of assistance into a Europe-wide mechanism which enables effective assistance by combining the donor countries’ different strengths.
Since the start of Russia's war of aggression, Finland has delivered a total of 126 vehicles and 414 truckloads of other civilian material assistance to Ukraine.
Donors play an important role in helping Ukraine. Donations made by Finland are mainly contributed by different companies, municipalities and wellbeing services counties, organisations and agencies. Finland has also made procurements to support Ukraine. Private individuals can help through civil society organisations.
