Parking fines go up in Hyvinkää, Kokkola, Kirkkonummi, Ylöjärvi, and Tikkurila, Vantaa The Ministry of the Interior has issued a new decree on parking penalty charge notices. The parking penalty charge notice, known as a parking fine, will go up in Hyvinkää from EUR 50 to EUR 60, in Kokkola from EUR 40 to EUR 50, in Kirkkonummi from EUR 25 to EUR 50 and in Ylöjärvi from EUR 30 to EUR 40. Under the Parking Control Act, the parking penalty charge notice is EUR 20. Provisions on higher parking penalty charge notices in a municipality or in certain parts of a municipality may be issued by decree of the Ministry of the Interior if required by traffic density, the scarcity of parking spaces, the number of parking violations, the smooth running of traffic or other traffic-related reasons. The maximum parking penalty charge notice is EUR 60. However, if different areas in a municipality have different parking fees, the maximum parking fine is EUR 80 in the areas where the parking fee is the highest.
The proposal to raise the parking fine is usually made by the municipality. The police department may also propose an increase in the fine. Before issuing a decree, the Ministry of the Interior requests a statement from the police department on the proposals.
