14.4.2026 | The Ministry of the Interior has sent out for comments a draft government proposal to update civilian intelligence legislation in response to the changed security environment.  The proposal would introduce new powers, including measures to prepare for state-sponsored threats, and clarifying amendments arising from practical needs identified in intelligence activities. 18.11.2024 | The new Preparing for Incidents and Crises guide aimed at the entire population has been published on Suomi.fi. The Ministry of the Interior produced the online guide together with the Digital and Population Data Services Agency and an extensive cooperation network. The guide collects preparedness instructions in one place.

18.2.2025 | Aimed at the entire population of Finland, the Preparing for Crises and Incidents Guide was published on the Suomi.fi Web Service in November. The preparedness instructions have reached a large number of people over the first three months.

7.2.2019 | In the future, Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian public safety networks will function seamlessly outside the country borders. This will facilitate communications between the Nordic rescue authorities in accidents and emergencies. Finland’s Authority Radio Network VIRVE and the Swedish equivalent Rakel will be officially combined on 7 February. Before this, the public safety networks of Finland and Norway had been combined, as had those of Sweden and Norway.

8.12.2022 | The Ministry of the Interior has set up a legislative project concerning the implementation of the EU’s proposed Directive on Critical Entities Resilience (CER), which is currently under consideration in the Union. The project will enhance national security and the resilience of society.  

15.7.2021 | In future, the rescue authorities may order, for example, owners of large shopping centres or hospitals to acquire and maintain equipment which ensures the operability of broadband services for public authority communications. The President of the Republic approved the legislative amendment on 15 July. The amendment will enter into force on 1 August 2021.

5.10.2021 | The Ministry of the Interior and other ministries that use the Government Security Network will start using the new‘@govsec.fi’ email suffix on 5 October. The suffix will be used for email addresses connected to the Government Security Network (TUVE email addresses). The change is part of the overall modernisation and harmonisation of the Government’s email systems and addresses.

11.12.2025 | A round table discussion on port safety and security took place on 11 December 2025 at the invitation of Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne and Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen. The meeting focussed on the security situation in Finnish ports and how they might be impacted by changes taking place in the operating environment.
