6.8.2020 | The Ministry of the Interior has decided to send expert and material assistance to Beirut through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism due to an explosion. Lebanon has requested international assistance from the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, where Finland is a member.

19.12.2025 | The Ministry of the Interior has sent out for comments a proposal to amend the Firearms Act. The draft proposal takes into account the need for amendments that has emerged in the application of the act following the reforms introduced to implement the most recent amendment to the EU Firearms Directive. The consultation round closes on 30 January 2026.

27.3.2025 | The Ministry of the Interior has published a nation-wide report on how well the targets set for rescue services and their finances have been achieved in the wellbeing services counties. The report recommends that the counties focus on recruitment of rescuers and preparedness for civil defence. They should also step up their efforts on incident and accident prevention with a view to reducing the number of incidents, accidents and fires across Finland.

In response to Ukraine's request, Finland will deliver water purification material and food packages to the country. Violent non-parliamentary far right movements are active in the areas of all police departments. 11.3.2021 | The Ministry of the Interior has decided to send two experts to Bata, Equatorial Guinea, where an explosion at a munitions depot has caused extensive destruction. Equatorial Guinea has requested international assistance in the rescue operations following the explosion accident. The Emergency Services Academy Finland will serve as the employer of the posted experts.

14.12.2021 | Today, ministers responsible for civil preparedness or their deputies from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland and Finland met via videoconference in the framework of so-called Haga cooperation. Finland’s Minister of the Interior Krista Mikkonen chaired the meeting, which ended Finland’s 2021 chairmanship of the Haga cooperation.

12.8.2020 | Some of the Finnish civil protection experts deployed through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism will return home from Beirut after their mission ends. The task of the experts ends in Beirut because the focus of international assistance has shifted from acute rescue operations to the reception of material assistance and other assistance activities.

11.3.2021 | Inrikesministeriet har beslutat sända två experter till Bata i Ekvatorialguinea där en explosion i ett ammunitionslager har orsakat omfattande skador. Ekvatorialguinea har begärt internationellt bistånd till räddningsinsatserna i samband med explosionsolyckan. Räddningsinstitutet är arbetsgivare för de experter som sänds ut.

25.4.2019 | The Nationality Act will be amended so that a person found guilty of certain serious offences may lose their Finnish citizenship. The Government submitted the amendments to the Act for approval on Thursday 25 April, and the President of the Republic is to approve the bill on Friday. The Act is scheduled to enter into force on 1 May 2019.
