7.2.2019 | UK citizens’ right of residence in Finland will continue for a fixed term under a special act. The act is being prepared for the eventuality of a no-deal Brexit in which the UK withdraws from the EU without an agreement at the end of March. The Government submitted a proposal on the special act to Parliament on 7 February.

25.1.2019 | On 25 January, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs supported the Ministry of the Interior’s proposal to draft a special act to continue, for a fixed term, UK citizens’ right of residence in Finland. The act is being prepared for the eventuality of a no-deal Brexit, where the UK withdraws from the EU without an agreement at the end of March.

7.2.2019 | Uppehållsrätten i Finland för brittiska medborgare förlängs för viss tid genom en speciallag. På så sätt bereder man sig på Storbritanniens eventuella utträde ur EU vid utgången av mars utan att ett avtal mellan Storbritannien och EU har förhandlats fram. Statsrådet överlämnade den 7 februari en proposition till riksdagen om stiftande av en speciallag om detta.

25.1.2019 | Regeringens EU-ministerutskott förordade den 25 januari inrikesministeriets förslag att bereda en separat lag för att förlänga uppehållsrätten för brittiska medborgare i Finland för viss tid. På så sätt bereder man sig på Storbritanniens eventuella utträde ur EU utan avtal vid utgången av mars.

2.11.2020 | The European Commission has pointed out that the EU-UK withdrawal agreement has been partially misinterpreted in Finland. Under the withdrawal agreement, all UK citizens, including those who have a document certifying a permanent right of EU residence in Finland, must exchange that document for a residence permit card.

29.9.2020 | As a result of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, UK citizens living in Finland will have to apply to exchange their previous registration based on the right of residence in the EU for the right of residence under the withdrawal agreement. The Finnish Immigration Service will charge EUR 48 for the processing of the application. The permanent right of residence in the EU may be exchanged for a permanent right of residence under the withdrawal agreement free of charge.

17.9.2020 | As a result of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, UK citizens living in Finland must submit an application for the right of residence in Finland under the withdrawal agreement. The Government submitted the bill for approval on Thursday 17 September. The President of the Republic is to approve the bill on Friday. The act will then enter into force on 1 October.

28.3.2019 | UK citizens’ right of residence after Brexit will be protected by a special act. The Government submitted the act for approval on Thursday 28 March, and the President of the Republic will approve it on Friday.

11.6.2020 | As a result of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, UK citizens living in Finland must submit a separate application for the right of residence in Finland under the withdrawal agreement. The Government submitted a proposal on the matter to Parliament on Thursday, 11 June 2020.

13.3.2020 | As a result of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the EU, UK citizens living in Finland will have to submit a separate application for a right of residence under the withdrawal agreement. The Ministry of the Interior has launched a project to prepare legislation that will specify the procedure and the timetable.

7.1.2021 | On 7 January, the Government decided to extend the restrictions on entry into the country until 9 February 2021. The COVID-19 epidemic is still clearly growing globally, and the number of infections is increasing in most countries more sharply than in Finland. It is therefore not justified to ease the restrictions until the new health security measures under preparation have been made sufficiently available.

11.6.2020 | Britannian EU-erosta seuraa, että Suomessa asuvien Britannian kansalaisten on erikseen haettava erosopimuksen mukaista oleskeluoikeutta Suomesta. Hallitus antoi asiaa koskevan esityksen eduskunnalle torstaina 11.6.

17.9.2020 | Britannian EU-erosta seuraa, että Suomessa jo asuvien Britannian kansalaisten on haettava erosopimuksen mukaista oleskeluoikeutta Suomesta. Hallitus esitti lain vahvistamista torstaina 17.9. Tasavallan presidentin on tarkoitus vahvistaa laki perjantaina. Laki tulee voimaan 1.10.

13.3.2020 | Britannian EU-erosta seuraa, että Suomessa asuvien Britannian kansalaisten on erikseen haettava erosopimuksen mukaista oleskeluoikeutta Suomesta. Sisäministeriö on asettanut hankkeen valmistellakseen lakia, jolla säädetään tarkemmasta menettelystä ja aikataulusta.

2.11.2020 | Euroopan komissio on tuonut esiin, että Britannian ja EU:n välistä erosopimusta on Suomessa tulkittu osin virheellisesti. Myös niiden Britannian kansalaisten, joilla on todistus pysyvästä EU-oleskeluoikeudesta Suomessa, täytyy vaihtaa todistus erosopimuksen mukaiseen oleskelulupakorttiin.

29.9.2020 | Britannian EU-erosta seuraa, että Suomessa asuvien brittien on haettava EU-oleskeluoikeutensa vaihtoa erosopimuksen mukaiseen oleskeluoikeuteen. Maahanmuuttovirasto perii hakemuksen käsittelystä 48 euron maksun. Pysyvän EU-oleskeluoikeuden voi vaihtaa erosopimuksen mukaiseen pysyvään oleskeluoikeuteen maksutta.

29.9.2020 | Till följd av Storbritanniens utträde ur EU måste de britter som bor i Finland ansöka om att deras EU-uppehållsrätt byts ut mot uppehållsrätt som avses i utträdesavtalet. Migrationsverket tar ut en avgift på 48 euro för behandlingen av ansökan. Permanent EU-uppehållsrätt kan bytas ut mot permanent uppehållsrätt enligt utträdesavtalet avgiftsfritt.

2.11.2020 | Europeiska kommissionen har påpekat att utträdesavtalet mellan Storbritannien och EU delvis har tolkats felaktigt i Finland. Också de brittiska medborgare som har ett intyg över permanent EU-uppehållsrätt i Finland måste byta ut intyget mot uppehållstillståndskort enligt utträdesavtalet.

17.9.2020 | Till följd av Storbritanniens utträde ur EU måste de brittiska medborgare som redan bor i Finland ansöka om uppehållsrätt i enlighet med utträdesavtalet i Finland. Regeringen föreslog den 17 september att en lag som gäller detta ska stadfästas. Avsikten är att republikens president stadfäster lagen på fredag. Lagen träder i kraft den 1 oktober.
