31.3.2025 | Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen will attend the Border Security Summit in London on 31 March. The ministerial summit will focus on crime related to people smuggling and organised immigration crime. The aim is to identify the best ways to combat these phenomena.

8.2.2024 | Unofficial international money remittances involve a very high risk of money laundering and terrorist financing. In addition, public authorities responsible for anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism and other key actors consider the risk to be high for virtual currency providers, banks and payment service providers.

12.9.2022 | The prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine and accelerating climate change have led to a situation in Finland and globally where the future seems rather uncertain. In the midst of uncertainty, decision-making is difficult. Finland will hold parliamentary elections in spring 2023, and the new Government Programme will outline policies for the next few years.

9.1.2023 | Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari and Minister of the Interior Krista Mikkonen are visiting Kyiv, Ukraine, on 9 January. In Kyiv, the ministers are meeting Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration, Minister of Energy, Minister of Internal Affairs and the Mayor of Kyiv.

7.7.2022 | A new national information system for incident and accident prevention will be procured for the rescue services. The purpose of the procurement is to enhance, harmonise and make transparent the processes of incident and accident prevention, data transfer and practices in rescue services and to enable electronic services for customers. The reform aims to improve the effectiveness of incident and accident prevention and the equality among clients.

23.1.2023 | A study commissioned by the Ministry of the Interior explored ways to anticipate future needs for amendments when drafting legislation. To this end, the study looked into the amendments made to the Aliens Act and the motivations behind them. The study was carried out by Åbo Akademi University in cooperation with researchers from the University of Turku.

1.3.2022 | Capacity of authorities to ensure national cyber security to be assessed and developed The Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Defence have set up a project to assess the capacity of authorities to ensure national cyber security, prevent cyber crime, implement cyber defence and respond to rapidly evolving situations that threaten the cyber security of society. 

29.4.2021 | Obliged entities, which are entities with reporting and other obligations, do not always examine the background to customers' transactions or the source of funds adequately enough for the purpose of preventing money laundering. Finland’s national risk assessment of money laundering and terrorist financing finds that all sectors experience challenges in identifying signs of terrorist financing.

14.1.2022 | The Ministry of the Interior’s project examined ways to clarify the picture of migration to Finland in the next few years and its impacts on the Finnish migration administration, especially the Finnish Immigration Service. The aim is to ensure that the migration administration meets the needs of society by means of smooth services.

28.1.2021 | On Thursday 28 January, the Government appointed Antti Pelttari, Master of Laws, to continue in his post as the Director of the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service. The post will be filled for the period from 1 March 2021 to 28 February 2026.

20.8.2020 | The various provisions on the processing of personal data by authorities dealing with migration matters will be brought together in a new act. The Government submitted the bill for approval on Thursday 20 August. The President of the Republic is to approve the bill on Friday. The act will then enter into force on 1 September.

9.8.2018 | The Ministry of the Interior proposes that an appropriation totalling EUR 1,485 million be allocated to its administrative branch in 2019. This is, as a whole, an increase of nearly EUR 10 million on the approved 2018 Budget figure.

12.9.2019 | Legislation concerning the processing of personal data in the field of immigration administration to be collected into a single act. Government proposal on the Personal Data Act in the Field of Immigration Administration and related acts was given to parliament on 12 September.

4.6.2018 | The Ministry of the Interior's vision is that Finland will be the safest country in the world and equally safe for all in 2030. To achieve this vision in the coming years, internal security services must even out the differences in the actual and perceived security of individuals and groups of people. The Futures Review of the Ministry of the Interior was published on 4 June.

7.5.2018 | An abnormal situation that tests the structures and preparedness of a society can occur without warning. The most critical objective of preparedness planning is to ensure functional preparedness in unexpected circumstances and to secure uninterrupted operational capacity in the various abnormal conditions. The regional government reform emphasises the harmonisation of preparedness models and the structural flexibility of the various security actors.

28.5.2025 | Statsrådet har fastställt riksomfattande strategiska mål för organiseringen av välfärdsområdenas uppgifter för fyraårsperioden 2025–2029. Målen är ett centralt element i den nationella strategiska styrningen av social- och hälsovården och räddningsväsendet. De styr välfärdsområdenas verksamhet, reformen av tjänsterna och en hållbar balansering av ekonomin.

18.2.2025 | Guiden Beredskap för störnings- och krissituationer, som riktar sig till hela befolkningen, publicerades i Suomi.fi-nättjänsten i november. Beredskapsanvisningarna har nått en stor publik under de tre första månaderna.

19.12.2024 | The European Commission proposes a new EU Digital Travel application for travellers to create and store their digital travel credentials, among other things. The Government informed Parliament of the Commission's proposals by submitting a Union communication on 19 December.
