3.9.2024 | The 2025 budget proposal of Prime Minister Orpo's Government bolsters conditions for economic growth. Economic growth driven by the private sector will also serve to secure the financing base for central government finances. The fast-acting measures to curb indebtedness that were decided on due to the difficult situation in central government finances will move forward.

16.2.2023 | The Government has adopted a resolution on the National Strategy for the Prevention of and Response to Environmental Damage extending to 2035. The Strategy was adopted at the government session on 16 February. Its main objective is to guide the authorities’ preparedness for current and future threats of environmental damage. The Strategy needed to be updated to ensure that the responsibilities of different actors are in line with the current legislation.

12.9.2022 | The prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine and accelerating climate change have led to a situation in Finland and globally where the future seems rather uncertain. In the midst of uncertainty, decision-making is difficult. Finland will hold parliamentary elections in spring 2023, and the new Government Programme will outline policies for the next few years.

26.1.2023 | On 9 January, Director General Kauko Aaltomaa, who is on leave of absence from the Police Department of the Ministry of the Interior, took up his duties as Head of Mission of the European Union Capacity Building Mission in Somalia (EUCAP Somalia). EUCAP Somalia is a civilian crisis management mission under the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy. Its tasks include promoting maritime security in Somalia and supporting the building of the country’s police and judicial administrations.

24.3.2023 | Superintendent Pekka Kokkonen, Head of the Police Dog Training Centre of the Police University College, has been appointed to serve as Senior Police Coordinator in the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).

28.9.2017 | The European Union has appointed Director General Kauko Aaltomaa of the Police Department, the Ministry of the Interior, as Head of the EUPOL COPPS civilian crisis management operation on 28 September 2017.

2.10.2020 | Sopimuspalokuntatoiminnan kehittämisohjelma on valmistunut. Ohjelman missiona ovat vahvemmat sopimuspalokunnat ja sitä kautta vahvempi pelastustoimi. Kehittämisohjelma linjaa sopimuspalokuntatoiminnan kansalliset kehittämistarpeet ja niitä käsitellään yhteistyössä alan keskeisten toimijoiden kanssa.

11.6.2020 | Sopimuspalokuntatoiminnan kansallisen kehittämisen toimintaohjelman missiona on vahvemmat sopimuspalokunnat, vahvempi pelastustoimi. Toimintaohjelma linjaa sopimuspalokuntatoiminnan kansalliset kehittämistarpeet ja sillä vastataan hallitusohjelman ja kansallisten strategioiden tavoitteisiin.

28.9.2018 | Minister of the Interior Kai Mykkänen will travel to Ankara in Turkey to participate in selecting quota refugees. He will observe the refugee selection process, in which the Finnish authorities will work together with the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR.

16.12.2019 | Pelastustoimen onnettomuuksien ehkäisyn toimintaohjelma on valmistunut. Toimintaohjelma määrittelee onnettomuuksien ehkäisylle kansalliset tavoitteet ja tekee siitä yhä vahvemmin osan pelastustoimen kaikkea toimintaa.

19.6.2018 | The conflict between Palestine and Israel has continued for 70 years. The EUPOL COPPS civilian crisis management mission works to put to rest the long-lasting crisis and achieve basic security in the region. The Palestinian question was created by people, and people can also resolve it.
