At the same time, restrictions will be placed on the ability of beneficiaries of international protection to visit the countries from which they have fled. The enforcement of deportation decisions will also be streamlined. The Government submitted the new amendments to the Aliens Act for approval on 22 May. The President of the Republic is scheduled to approve the amendments on 23 May, and they will enter into force on 1 June.

  13. 3.7.2024 | The Ministry of the Interior is requesting comments on the draft government proposal for a new gambling act. The reform of the gambling system is based on the Government Programme. Under the proposal, Veikkaus Oy would no longer hold the monopoly to arrange betting and online slot machine games and casino games. These games would be opened up to competition by means of licensing as laid out in the Government Programme.

  14. 15.5.2025 | In March, the European Commission submitted a proposal for a new return regulation that aims to improve the effectiveness of the return of persons staying illegally in the EU and to prevent unauthorised movements within the Schengen area. The regulation would replace the current Return Directive. The Government informed Parliament of the Commission's proposal by submitting a Union communication on 15 May.

  15. 15.5.2025 | Europeiska kommissionen lade i mars fram ett förslag till en ny återvändandeförordning, vars syfte är att effektivisera återresor för och återvändanden av personer som vistas olagligt i EU och att förhindra otillåten förflyttning inom Schengenområdet. Förordningen ersätter det nuvarande återvändandedirektivet. Regeringen informerade riksdagen om kommissionens förslag genom en skrivelse den 15 maj.
