6.3.2026 | Finland, Sverige, Norge, Danmark, Island, Estland, Lettland, Litauen, Polen och Tyskland har kommit överens om att fördjupa samarbetet kring skydd av civilbefolkningen och undertecknat ett samförståndsavtal mellan de ministerier som ansvarar för civil beredskap. Samförståndsavtalet behandlades i februari vid ministrarnas digitala möte. Finland representerades vid mötet av inrikesminister Mari Rantanen.

21.4.2026 | The Ministry of the Interior has set up a legislative project to prepare amendments to the Lotteries Act and the Gambling Act concerning the claiming of winnings, with the aim of making it possible to give scratch cards as gifts. The project will run until 31 December 2026.

27.11.2025 | The inauguration of the civil defence coalition co-led by Ukraine and Finland will take place in Kyiv on 27 November. Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will attend the inauguration to announce Finland’s EUR 11 million funding for constructing civil defence shelters. Finland has earlier confirmed approximately EUR two million in funding for the bilateral project, which makes Finland’s total support to Ukrainian civil defence sector about EUR 13 million.

25.8.2020 | Minister of the Interior Maria Ohisalo will meet her colleague, Estonian Minister of the Interior Mart Helme, in Tallinn today. The Ministers are to sign a memorandum of understanding between Finland and Estonia on oil spill prevention and response.

25.10.2017 | Finnish Minister of the Interior Paula Risikko met with her Russian Federation counterpart, Minister of Internal Affairs Vladimir Kolokoltsev, in Helsinki on 25 October. This was the Ministers’ second bilateral meeting. The Ministers discussed bilateral issues such as combatting cross-border crime.

21.4.2021 | At its meeting on 20 April, the Government adopted a plan to lift the restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 epidemic. The Government discussed the feedback received on the plan and made clarifications based on the comments.

14.6.2017 | Permanent Secretary Päivi Nerg met Russian First-Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandr Gorovoy in Moscow on 14 June. The meeting focused on cooperation in migration issues between Finland and Russia and the migration situation in the two countries. The duties of the Russian migration administration are very similar to those of the Finnish Immigration Service.

14.12.2017 | The Ministry of the Interior has issued decrees on fees charged for services provided by the police and the Finnish Immigration Service. The amendment to the Firearms Act that entered into force at the beginning of December entails changes to the firearm licences issued by the local police. Moderate changes will also be made to some of the fees charged for the services provided by the Finnish Immigration Service in order to improve cost-effectiveness.

8.7.2020 | In its meeting on Wednesday 8 July, the Government also received a briefing on the epidemiological situation and heard a report on the safe entry of berry pickers.
