5.3.2026 | The Government intends to establish a police reserve in Finland to ensure sufficient police resources in all circumstances. The threshold for deploying the reserve would be high. The Government submitted a proposal on the matter to Parliament on 5 March. Most of the legislative amendments are scheduled to enter into force on 1 January 2027.

12.11.2021 | På initiativ av inrikesministeriet lät statsrådet göra en undersökning där man utredde vilka kompletterande migrationsvägar det finns i olika länder för personer som är i behov av internationellt skydd. Fokus låg på vägar som baserar sig på arbete och studier. Forskningsinformation stöder Finlands överväganden av behovet av migrationsvägar och EU:s ansträngningar för att finna nya lösningar.

10.11.2025 | The Ministry of the Interior is requesting comments on a draft government proposal for the establishment and deployment of a police reserve. The aim is to ensure that the police have sufficient resources in all circumstances. The draft proposal also includes an amendment concerning the qualification requirements for the Master of Police Services degree. The deadline for submitting comments is 22 December 2025.

22.12.2025 | The Ministry of the Interior has issued a new decree on the Finnish Immigration Service’s fees. The decree will enter into force on 1 January 2026 and remain in force until 31 December 2026.

20.12.2022 | Amendments to the Aliens Act will extend the use of a long-term visa known as a D visa. The amendments will contribute to promoting education-based and labour-based immigration and streamline entry procedures. The President of the Republic approved the amendments on 20 December.

12.4.2018 | I en undersökning som gäller uppföljningen av 100-årsjubileet av Finlands självständighet önskade över hälften av alla dem som svarade att Finlands flagga skulle användas mer för att fira självständighetsdagen. Önskan är också att det blir en tradition att flaggan används allt mer på självständighetsdagen. Finlands flaggas 100-årsjubileum firas i maj.

18.2.2022 | On 18 February, the Ministry of the Interior sent out for comments draft amendments to the Aliens Act which would extend the use of a long-term visa known as a D visa. Long-term visas would speed up entry into the country for people who have been issued with residence permits.
