7.9.2017 | The licensing process for firearms will be reformed by amending the Firearms Act and some of the related acts. The licencing process will become smoother and quicker without compromising firearms safety. The Government proposed on 7 September that the relevant legislative amendments be approved. The President of the Republic is to approve the amendments on 8 September. The aim is to prevent the export of cartridge components to Russia in particular. In November, the Commission proposed a regulation that would reinforce Europol's role and increase information sharing between Member States. 16.12.2021 | Police licence and permit fees are due to change in 2022. The price of a passport will fall, while most prices of other licences and permits will rise. The prices of identity cards will remain unchanged. The changes reflect the cost-correlation of licences and permits. 18.7.2018 | The introduction of the online service under the Firearms Act will be postponed. The reason for the postponement is that the police’s system for information on weapons is still incomplete. The Ministry of the Interior set up a legislative project on 18 July to amend the law with respect to the entry into force of the online service. 14.12.2017 | The Ministry of the Interior has issued decrees on fees charged for services provided by the police and the Finnish Immigration Service. The amendment to the Firearms Act that entered into force at the beginning of December entails changes to the firearm licences issued by the local police. According to the latest Police Barometer survey, a total of 91 per cent of the respondents trust the police a lot or a fair amount. Trust in the police has slightly decreased compared to the previous survey (2018: 95 per cent). Violent non-parliamentary far right movements are active in the areas of all police departments.
