Accident prevention is a joint effort

14.2.2023 | The Ministry of the Interior has published an updated national risk assessment. The previous risk assessment was published in 2018, after which several changes have taken place in Finland’s operating environment. The national risk assessment anticipates sudden incidents targeted at Finland that have an impact on the vital functions of society and require the authorities to adopt exceptional measures or even request help from other countries.

15.6.2022 | The Finnish Government wants to better meet the needs of those who have fled Ukraine. Together with other ministries, the Ministry of the Interior is mapping the situation of Ukrainians who have come to Finland and their need for various services. This is being done by means of an online survey.

12.4.2023 | Sisäministeriö myönsi sisäisen turvallisuuden rahastosta (ISF) syksyn 2022 haussa EU-rahoitusta kahdeksaan hankkeeseen sekä operatiiviseen toimintaan yhteensä noin 11,5 miljoonaa euroa. Rahoituksella vahvistetaan vakavien ja rajat ylittävien rikosten torjuntaa ja ehkäisemistä koskevia valmiuksia. 

17.4.2023 | The final report of the preliminary study on the monopoly for gambling activities was submitted to the Ministry of the Interior on 17 April 2023. The objective of the project, for which the Ministry of the Interior appointed a research group on 5 January 2023, was to describe the current state of affairs and map out alternative models for the gambling system to support political decision-making. 

12.4.2023 | Inrikesministeriet har beviljat åtta olika projekt och den operativa verksamheten EU-finansiering på sammanlagt cirka 11,5 miljoner euro ur fonden för inre säkerhet. Genom finansieringen förbättras beredskapen att bekämpa och förebygga allvarliga och gränsöverskridande brott.

2.2.2022 | EU home affairs ministers will gather in Lille, France, on 3 February for an Informal Meeting of Justice and Home Affairs Ministers. The ministers will discuss the security of Europe’s borders and the reform of the EU’s migration and asylum policy. Another topic on the agenda will be the impact of climate change on civil protection. No decisions will be made at the informal meeting.

7.5.2021 | The Ministry of the Interior has published a report on the perceived security threats raised by different religious communities in Finland concerning their religious premises. The report also lists proposals for improving the safety and security of such premises.

28.2.2019 | The Ministry of the Interior requested local rescue departments to conduct a survey on the safety of exiting so-called escape rooms in their area. The survey was carried out in cooperation with the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency TUKES that monitors the safety of consumer services in Finland. The motivation for the survey was a fire in an escape room in Poland in the beginning of January that killed 5 people and left one severely injured.

21.3.2019 | The Security Committee has granted its 2018 Timanttiteko (Diamond Act) award to the group in charge of implementing the National Climate Change Adaptation Plan for 2022. The award was presented on 21 March 2019 at the Erve Forum, an annual cooperation event for security professionals organised by the State Security Networks Group.

5.10.2017 | The Internal Security Strategy, A Safe and Secure Life, is a road map for ensuring that Finland will be the safest country in the world, as envisaged in the Government Programme. Good internal security means that everyone can enjoy the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the rule of law without fear or insecurity caused by crime, disorder, accidents or national or international events. The Government adopted a Resolution on the Internal Security Strategy on 5 October.
