29.4.2026 | The Ministry of the Interior has set up a project to prepare the necessary amendments to the provision of the Aliens Act on sufficient financial resources for family reunification. In future, a government decree would lay down provisions on the euro amounts required to demonstrate sufficient financial resources. This requirement would apply to family members of people who live in Finland with a residence permit.

24.10.2024 | On 24 October, the Government issued a decree laying down provisions on cooperation in preparedness for civil defence and related plans in the wellbeing services counties. The decree specifies the practices of cooperation between the authorities of the wellbeing services counties.

21.12.2023 | The Ministry of the Interior has issued a new Decree on Assistance for Voluntary Return, which will enter into force on 1 January 2024. The decree's provision on staggering the assistance is part of the set of measures related to voluntary return and departure outlined in the Government Programme.

28.8.2023 | The Ministry of the Interior has set up a project to update the Decree on Assistance for Voluntary Return. The new Decree will enter into force on 1 January 2024.

16.1.2025 | The Government has issued a decree bringing into force the agreement on police cooperation in the border area between Finland and Sweden. The agreement will enter into force on 1 February 2025.

29.5.2019 | The Finnish Government laid down two decrees today concerning civilian intelligence. The decrees will take effect on 1 June at the same time with the intelligence legislation.

1.12.2023 | The Ministry of the Interior will incorporate the Ingå port area into the Decree of the Ministry of the Interior on Restrictions on Movement, Access and Stay. Movement, access and stay in the area will be restricted under the Police Act. The amended Decree will enter into force on 4 December 2023.

28.10.2019 | The aerodrome Redstone AERO in Pyhtää on the south-east coast of Finland has been included in the Decree of the Ministry of the Interior on Restrictions on Access, Movement and Stay.

13.10.2023 | The Ministry of the Interior has set up a project tasked with incorporating the Ingå port area into the Decree of the Ministry of the Interior on Restrictions on Movement, Access and Stay. The Decree includes sites and locations where access is restricted and movement or stay is prohibited under the Police Act.

7.9.2023 | On Thursday 7 September, the Government issued a Decree Amending the Decree on the Running of Veikkaus Oy's Gambling Games. The current decree has been updated to correspond to the amendments made to the Lotteries Act. The amendment will enable Veikkaus to create a new way to run lotteries online.

16.5.2024 | The agreement on police cooperation in the border area between Finland and Sweden will further improve the maintenance of security in the northern border area. The President of the Republic is to approve the agreement and the relevant bills on Friday.

20.6.2018 | A total of 20 new locations have been added to the annexes of the Ministry of the Interior decree on restrictions on access, movement and stay, two old locations have been removed and the area of two current locations has been extended.

23.1.2023 | A study commissioned by the Ministry of the Interior explored ways to anticipate future needs for amendments when drafting legislation. To this end, the study looked into the amendments made to the Aliens Act and the motivations behind them. The study was carried out by Åbo Akademi University in cooperation with researchers from the University of Turku.

17.6.2021 | The Finnish Immigration Service has introduced a new function in the service system to make it easier for seasonal workers to change employers while they are in Finland. The relevant amendment to the Decree of the Ministry of the Interior on Chargeable Services of the Finnish Immigration Service is based on an amendment to the Seasonal Workers Act. Both the amendment to the Seasonal Workers Act and the amendment to the Decree will enter into force on 17 June 2021.
